Children's Prayer Service
The following children's liturgy has been used by our Sunday School program for many years. It is not known who wrote it, but it is clearly modeled after the liturgy found in the Book of Common Prayer, as you'd expect, given that we're Episcopal.
We open each lesson with this service, and spend a few minutes going around the room for each of the prayer requests. This allows the children to share some things that are going on in their lives.
Usually the children rotate around the room, alternately reading the part of the 'LEADER', while the Teacher will read the Gospel, solicit prayer requests and conduct the offering. In some cases, depending on circumstances, the Gospel reading and the offering are omitted.
We printed the liturgy on cardstock, folded it over so it opens like a book, and included a child's drawing of our Church building on the cover. There's a pdf file of the liturgy, ready for printing, here: (children's prayer service.) Print it out as is, and let the children decorate the front as part of a lesson activity, or copy it onto the back of a 'Title Page' prepared previously.
CHILDREN'S PRAYER SERVICE
We love God, our Father
For our families who love us,
For our daily bread He gives us,
For our Lord Jesus Christ whom He sent.
When we are selfish.
When we lie, cheat or steal
When we disobey,
And God forgives because He loves us.
When we feel lonely,
When we have something hard to do,
When something sad happens.
For all who are hungry, homeless or sick,
For all who are in trouble,
For all who have died, And especially for
For our friends,
For happy times,
And especially for
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Ghost
Be with us evermore.
